    As a certified athletic trainer and licensed physical therapist specializing in brain injury, I always share a vital message with my patients: Many brain injuries are preventable if you simply make smart decisions every day.

    The summer months are a great time to focus on motorcycle safety. According to a 2013 Department of Defense Medical Surveillance Monthly Report, motor vehicle collisions are the most common cause of brain injuries in nondeployed settings in the U.S. military. One of the primary missions of the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) is to help members of the military and their families stay safe, while on the road or at home, to prevent brain injuries.
